Farmers to benefit from New Soil Nutrient Maps

by catchmentcare / Thursday, 14 January 2021 / Published in news

AFBI are working with a small group of beef & sheep farmers in the Blackwater catchment, advising on farm nutrient management practices. To help these farmers visualise recent soil results a set of colour-coded soil nutrient maps have been produced. A simple ‘traffic light’ system of red, amber and green is being used to indicate if the soil pH, soil phosphorus and soil potassium status of their fields are above, below or at optimum levels for grassland management. These maps, together with farm specific nutrient management advice, are helping these farmers make informed decisions about lime and fertiliser use.
